A History of Violence

A blog about history topics, varied and sundry.

The T-35 was a multi-turreted heavy tank designed by the friendly folks at the aptly-named Bolshevik Factory in the Soviet Union. The Central turret sported a 76.2mm gun. The two smaller turrets fore and aft of the main gun carried a 45mm gun on one side and a 7.62mm DT machine gun on the other on most models. There was an experimental version that had a pair of flamethrowers in place of the 45mm guns.

There was a joke between the crews of the beasts that the rear turrets weren’t there to prevent to encirclement, but to prevent dissent in the ranks behind them.

Such crews doubtless laughed all the way to the Gulags.
